Paul Bunyan Trail works its way through central and northern Minnesota through the communities of Brainerd, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Pine River, Hackensack, Walker & Bemidji. Once a trail used by French explorers and voyageurs of old the trail route takes you past several historical sites and markers. The trail was once used heavily during the early logging and railroad days, now used by modern outdoor enthusiast, trail walkers and riders of all kinds.
Stretching 115 miles from Crow Wing State Park near Brainerd all the way up to Lake Bemidji State Park, it is the longest trail in Minnesota and the longest paved trail in the country. During the spring, summer & fall the trail is used by hikers, bikers & inline skaters, during the winter months the trail is party of the extensive Minnesota Snowmobile Trail System. You will find dozens of parking & rest areas along the trail so you have plenty of access points no matter your location. Near Walker, MN the Paul Bunyan Trail connects with the Shingobee Trail heading towards Cass Lake, MN and the Heartland Trail that connect Park Rapids, MN.
